The statue of COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), has been vandalised.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM on January 7 at EOCO’s premises, where unidentified individuals managed to damage the monument despite the presence of two on-duty officers.
The statue, unveiled in October last year, has been a source of public debate since its commissioning by EOCO staff to honour their Executive Director.
The surrounding area, named “Obaatanpa Tiwaa Gardens,” was established in her recognition.
Witnesses reported seeing the perpetrators flee the scene before they could be apprehended. Security measures at the facility are now under scrutiny as questions arise about the officers’ inability to prevent the act.
Public reactions have been mixed, with some viewing the statue as a fitting tribute, while others have criticized its installation as unnecessary.
EOCO officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the vandalism, but the incident has reignited conversations about the statue’s symbolic and financial implications.
Authorities are currently investigating the act, and surveillance footage from the premises is being reviewed to identify the culprits.
