Producer and actor Kobi Rana has expressed his displeasure with the National Film Authority’s [NFA] decision to require licenses from the administrators of the locations where his film will be screened.
According to Kobi Rana, a manager of one of the hotels where the premiere of his new movie, ‘Till Deaf Do Us Part‘ is going to be held called to inform him that the NFA had reached out to them to acquire a license to enable them to use their venue for the premiere.
The producer, who is not happy about the development, told Andy Dosty on Hitz FM on Monday that he sees the move by the NFA as victimizing him as this is not the first time.
“I was at the National Film Authority for classification of my film on Thursday and spent over 2 hours there.
“Nobody told me anything about licensing but the next morning, one of the marketing managers of one of the hotels where the screening will happen called to tell me that his general manager is angry with him for not taking license before accepting to rent out the space.
“Clearly, this interference thing, everybody knows it has happened before with Freedom and Justice,” he said.
He added that it is the same thing that happened to his Freedom and Justice film, which was banned from showing in various locations, and warned that he will not take it lightly if they try to block him from showing the film across the country.
“They should mess up my hustle again and see. Freedom and Justice up to now, nobody called me not to show the movie here or there.
“They went to all these venues with the policemen and messed up our over eighty thousand cedis and nobody has said anything and they are coming to do it again? They should try and see,” he said.
His new film, “Till Deaf Do Us Part,” is set to premiere on February 14 in Accra and other regions across the country.
