The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has challenged the 2021 national skills winners, who would compete for the World Skills Africa in Namibia to be focused and never limit themselves in order to win the competition

According to him, they should concentrate on what they can do rather than allowing others to tell them they are incapable of achieving what they do.

Dr. Adutwum gave this advise when he welcomed fifteen winners of the National Skills Competition to his office in Accra last Monday.

He stated that representing Ghana is always a privilege because the country is the best in the world.

“Focus on your vision and what you can do, don’t limit yourselves and do not allow anyone to tell you, you can’t do it” he emphasized.

The Minister added that this initiative had motivated him to look for such opportunities that will accelerate student learning in a way that had a real-world impact.

The contenders, should they win the Africa Championships slated for Namibia in March,2022, will represent Ghana at the World Skills International Competition, scheduled for Shanghai, China, in October 2022.

The Deputy Minister for Education in charge of TVET, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo, stated that the Ministry, with the assistance of donor partners, were assisting with the necessary and available resources that will enable them to be ready for the competition.

The national skills competition is a yearly competition held to choose the finest students in talented fields such as cooking, mechatronics, beauty therapy, brick making, construction, among others, to represent Ghana at the global competition.

The competition focuses on fourteen skill areas and has 73 students participating, including students from both tertiary and secondary schools.
