A man suspected of stealing a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been arrested, and the vehicle recovered, following a swift police operation spanning multiple regions.
The suspect, identified as Salifu Gariba, was apprehended by officers from the Northern Regional Police Command on Wednesday, April 16, along the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway near Kukobila. The arrest came just a day after the vehicle was reported stolen in Tarkwa.
According to police, the Land Cruiser, with registration number GS 1845-23, was taken from the residence of an EPA employee in Budo City, a suburb of Tarkwa, in the early hours of Tuesday, April 15.
Thanks to a coordinated effort between the Western Central and Northern Regional Police Commands, the stolen vehicle was successfully tracked and retrieved. Gariba is currently in custody and assisting police with their investigation.
Authorities say he will be processed for court soon. Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Police have urged the public to remain calm and reaffirmed their commitment to bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
