The spate of armed robberies in Ghana has left many worrying about their safety and the ability of the police to fight crime.
Armed robbers operations in recent times have changed with regards to the location and victims they attack. It is obvious their modi operandi nowadays are targeted at vulnerable victims who have no protection.
Recently, over one hundred [100] commercial bus drivers commuting from Kumasi to Bolgatanga, Tamale and Yendi threatened a massive demonstration over persistent robbery attacks.
Narrating the incident, the panic-stricken drivers expressed fears ahead of their journey.
The commercial drivers are appealing to the government to strengthen security on the country’s highways to protect drivers and passengers.
“The situation is unbearable. They take monies and shoot passengers who refuse to surrender their belongings or money.
“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid as another person is currently battling for his life after a similar attack”. The Drivers narrated
Speaking to the New Ghana, State Transport Operators Chairman, Alhaji Issah Abdullah Aziz, revealed that seven buses had been attacked since the beginning of 2021.
He is therefore calling on the authorities to help intensify security patrols on the routes.
“If we don’t hear anything from the appropriate leaders, we will go on demonstration, park our vehicles”. State Transport Operators Chairman noted
