The management of Sunyani Technical University (STU), has launched an investigation into an alleged sex for grades scandal claim by former Student’s Representative Council (SRC) President Mr. Owusu Agyekum.

In a circulated video on social media, the former SRC President was heard accusing some lecturers of the University of having sexual relations with some female students in exchange for better grades.

Meanwhile, in a swift response to the claims, management of STU has constituted a committee to probe the matter for further actions.

A statement released and dated February 14, 2024 by the University has emphatically stated that the school has zero-tolerance for any form of sexual harassment or misconduct.

“The management treats this allegation with utmost seriousness and has swiftly set up a committee to investigate the matter and come up with findings and recommendations for necessary action,” part of the statement read.

“It is worth stating that the Sunyani Technical University has a strict zero-tolerance policy on all forms of sexual harassment or misconduct, and the management would not tolerate any violations of the existing policies on such practices.”

The University further urged all stakeholders to stay calm, assuring them that any lecturer who would be found culpable would face severe punishment.

“We therefore assure all stakeholders that any member of the University that would be found culpable in these allegations will be severely sanctioned in line the provisions of the sexual harassment policy and the Disciplinary Code of the University.”
