The Sunyani Technical University (STU), has vehemently denied sex for grades allegations made against some of its lecturers by a former Students and Representative Council (SRC) President.
This comes after the University launched an investigation into the claim by the former SRC President, Mr. Owusu Agyekum in February this year.
It would be recalled that Mr. Agyekum had in a circulated video on social media, accused some lecturers of the University of having sexual relations with some female students in exchange for better grades.
In the meantime, the STU administration has refuted these accusations in a statement, stating that neither Mr. Owusu nor any other individual is able to provide any hard proof to back up the allegations.
“Management wishes to state unequivocally that after thorough investigations into the recently alleged sex-for-grades claim by a former SRC President of the University, Mr. Owusu Agyekum, not a speck of evidence or proof could be found to back his allegations,” part of the statement read.
It explained that a meeting via Zoom had been arranged due to the former SRC President’s busy schedule in the UK, and had promised to produce video and video but after a long wait, he could not honour his promise.
Due to Mr. Owusu’s inability to produce the proof he had promised, the committee tasked with conducting the investigation had to conclude.
The committee also stated in its findings that “some of the alleged victims of the sex-for-grades scandal whose contact numbers were given by him, were not prepared to give any evidence in that regard.”
Mr. Agyekum has been therefore advised to render an apology to the University as his allegations had tarnished the image of the institution.
