Residents of Sefwi Subiri in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North region are peeved with the illegal mining activities in the area.

They are demanding an immediate end to the menace that is negatively impacting their livelihoods.

Speaking to JoyNews, the residents complained about the destruction of their forest by illegal mining activities that have affected the environment.

“This is our only source of water. We will clash with anyone who tries to do galamsey here. We are not going to let that happen here.” they vowed.

A committee chairman, Mr Kofi Yesu, seized the opportunity to appeal to the President, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to their aid to ensure the activities of the illegal mining stop.

“We are appealing to H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to our to ensure the activities of the unlawful cease.

Mr Kwasi Kwakye, a leader of the demonstrators, suggested that they have made up their minds to stop anyone involved in illegal mining in the community.

“We are ready to deal with them if today’s demonstration doesn’t yield results. We have taken practical measures to ensure they don’t get access to do their evil activities here in the river,” he added.
