The Assembly Member for Shiekomolo electoral area within the Sampa township in the Jaman North District of the Bono region, Honorable Yaya Trawule has appealed to the government to subsidize the assembly members within the country financially to enhance the decentralization concept.
Speaking to Kwaku Mensah Abrampa in an exclusive interview, He emphasized that governments over the years have taken the pain to pay monthly salaries to MMDCEs, Assembly staff and Members of Parliament within every constituency in the country but have sidelined the assembly members who were equally voted for before gaining the mandate to serve indicating that a lot of the electorates within every electoral area depends mostly on assembly members for financial assistance.
He revealed that assembly members are always invited to attend any form of social gathering, provide financial support to the needy electorates and also steer the affairs of the developmental issues of the electoral area hence the need for government to give them some allowances to be able to carry out their duties as expected of them to facilitate the local governance activities.
He raised concerns about the fact that because all the powers and the resources are controlled at the district level, it affects the development of the electoral area, therefore government must lower the decentralization concept to the electoral area for assembly members to determine the kind of projects to be constructed for their electorates.
Mr Yaya Trawule added that open partisan politics has taken over the decentralization concept even though it shouldn’t have been politicized and so most MMDCEs always make sure their party members are supported to gain a majority in the MMDAs to be able to have control over the policies and plans in the activities of the assembly to push the agenda of the political party within which he was chosen.
He lamented that these partisan politics in the Assembly concept has created disunity within most electoral areas which have tossed out the communal spirit of electorates making it difficult for the achievement of development in the various electoral areas.
