He believes the current bench is not sufficient to manage the Supreme Court’s expanding workload and complex legal issues.

During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Justice Mensah argued that the court’s broad jurisdiction and rising number of cases demand a more robust judicial presence to ensure efficient and timely delivery of justice.

“There are increasingly more cases, many of which are complex and costly. It is only reasonable to appoint more judges to handle them,” he said in response to a question about the ideal number of Supreme Court justices.

In his view, a minimum of 20 judges would be suitable for the Court, considering the volume and nature of matters it must adjudicate.
