A man believed to be in his twenties has been killed at Kaahaa in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region after he was caught allegedly stealing livestock.
The suspect, whose identity is currently being withheld, reportedly travelled from Wa to Kaahaa on a Huajue motorbike to carry out the theft.
In an attempt to keep the operation quiet, he tied the mouths of a stolen sheep and goat with rope before attempting to flee the community with the animals on a motorbike.
However, his movements raised suspicion among some local residents, who spotted him and gave chase.
The mob managed to apprehend the suspect and subsequently beat him to death before local authorities could intervene.
According to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, the area has been plagued by similar thefts recently.
Reporting the story on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Rex Nhyriaba Antieku noted that the suspect was believed to target communities in the region whenever the Islamic Eid celebrations approached, capitalising on the high demand for livestock during the festive season.
Police are expected to commence investigations into the incident to apprehend those behind the lawless killing.
His body has since been deposited at the regional hospital morgue.
