Suspects involved in the theft case at the residence of former minister for sanitation and water resources, Cecilia Dapaah are expected back in court on Tuesday August 22, 2023.
Seven suspects, currently assisting with investigations have so far been charged with counts of stealing and conspiracy to steal for their alleged involvement in the over $1 million, 300,000 Euros and valuable items worth millions of cedis allegedly stolen from the former minister’s home at Abelempke in Accra.
This will be their second appearance since the charge sheet was amended by police prosecutors on the advice of the Attorney General.
On Friday, July 21, two house helps of the Minister, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei were facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing an amount of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis at the former minister’s residence at Abelemkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022.
The revelations shocked many Ghanaians as they all called for the head of the minister who subsequently resigned.
Following her resignation, the Office of the Special Prosecutor put madam Cecilia under arrest and further conducted a search in her home.
The search also revealed a substantial sum of US$590,000 and GHC2.730,000 in cash were found at her residence causing the OSP to freeze her accounts.
Meanwhile, the High Court in Accra has scheduled Thursday, August 31, to deliver a ruling on the Special prosecutor’s application to freeze her bank accounts.
On Tuesday, August 8, two out of the seven who were arraigned before court were granted bail as they are lactating mothers while the other five were remanded.
An eighth suspect is believed to be on the run.
