The Ghana Police Service has firmly rejected reports circulating in parts of the media that attempt to link recent escapees from police custody to the murder case involving the father-in-law of National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi.

In a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command, authorities described the claims as inaccurate and misleading, cautioning the public against relying on unverified information.

Police Refute Alleged Link to Murder Case

The statement, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, clarified that none of the inmates who escaped custody were being held in connection with the said murder case. It further stressed that the escapees have no known association with the incident.

Police explained that the individuals in question were not detained at the Adabraka District Police Station over the murder investigation, contrary to claims widely shared on some media platforms.

Swift Response Leads to Re-Arrests

Providing an update on the situation, the Command disclosed that swift operational measures taken after the incident have resulted in the re-arrest of three out of the six escapees.

The suspects were recaptured within a short period following the breakout on April 26, 2026, demonstrating what police describe as a rapid and coordinated response by officers.

Efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining three individuals who are still at large. Police say a manhunt has been intensified, with officers pursuing leads to ensure their arrest.

Investigation Into Escape Underway
Authorities have also initiated a full-scale internal investigation into the circumstances that led to the escape.

The probe is expected to examine possible security lapses and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
Police sources indicate that the outcome of the investigation could lead to administrative or disciplinary actions if any negligence is established.

Public Urged to Assist

The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining safety and security, while urging citizens to support ongoing efforts.

Members of the public with credible information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining escapees are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact law enforcement authorities.

Police further advised the public to disregard the false reports linking the escapees to the murder case, emphasizing the need for responsible reporting and verification of information before publication.
