The Tanker Drivers Unions, comprising the Bulk Tanker Drivers Union and National Association of Tanker Drivers have issued a notice to embark on an Industrial strike action against the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and their transporters over what they term poor working conditions.

The decision according to the aggrieved Drivers follows the NPA’s failure to implement the salary renegotiation dialogue with their transporters since last year 2023.

According to the national chairman of the Bulk Tanker Drivers Union, Clement Ampadu, both parties had a mutual agreement over salary adjustment last year but it is unfortunate to announce the unusual U-Turn by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and their transporters.

Speaking to Republic Press, the national vice chairman of the National Tanker Drivers Association, Sunday Alabi also disclosed that, although an agreement was reached with NPA on meeting their terms and conditions, there are little challenges with some other stakeholders.

He further disclosed that the drivers planned to embark on the strike action on Friday, March 1, 2024, but the NPA assured them of resolving the challenges as soon as possible to meet their conditions.

“We decided to begin the strike on Friday but NPA told us to give them up to next week so we are holding on. We only want our conditions to be met. if not, we will also advise ourselves”, Mr. Alabi stressed.
