A Tanzanian opposition leader has called for the government to reveal the whereabouts of President John Magufuli, who has not been seen in public for a fortnight.

Tundu Lissu said the president’s wellbeing was a matter of grave public concern.

The Tanzanian government has warned the media against reporting unverified information about Mr Magufuli’s health.

A leading Kenyan newspaper is reporting that an African leader is in a Nairobi hospital with coronavirus but this has not been independently confirmed.

Mr Magufuli has denied Covid-19 is a problem for Tanzania, promoting prayer and steam inhalation as a way of combatting the virus.
