Police in the Western Region have arrested the Assembly Member for Tarkwa Bremang Electoral Area, Isaac Duku, popularly known as Agoogi, for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities and unlawfully diverting a public road through his private property.
The arrest occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Dortaso near Tarkwa. It came days after concerned residents reported the matter to the Bawdie Police on July 14.
According to the complaint, the assemblyman had rerouted the community’s main access road onto his private land without any authorization, while actively carrying out mining operations on the diverted road section.
Police sources confirm that the assemblyman was picked up following preliminary investigations into the allegations.
The unlawful diversion of the road has raised safety and environmental concerns among residents, particularly because it restricts movement and threatens public infrastructure in the area.
Investigators say the road was not only a critical link for residents of Tarkwa Bremang but also served as a passage for adjoining communities, making its obstruction a matter of serious public concern.
Duku is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
