The President of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr. Angel Carbonu, has stated that there is tension among public workers across the country following the delay of February salary.
“I have received many massages from teachers and other public workers who are demanding for their February salary in March which in normal days should have been paid.
On a normal month, Mr. Carbonu said salaries for public workers are paid between 24 and 25 of that same month but as at today, public workers have not been paid, a situation which he said is creating anxiety in the country.
Mr. Carbonu made this statement on March 1, 2022, while addressing the media following the associations decision to boycott the ongoing two-day labour conference at Rock City Hotel at Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region.
“Although, we were invited, we did not honour it over concerns that it will yield no positive results in the life of public workers,” he stated.
Mr. Carbonu said the labour conference is taking place at a time where the country is facing serious economic hardships.
“We are therefore calling on all labour unions to quickly call for the renegotiation of new salary schemes to be realistic and commensurate with the current economic realities,” he stated.
On his part, the President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH), Mr. King Ali Awudu, also said per the current economic situation in the country, there is the need for government to institute Cost of Living Allowance to help support public workers to close the gap between prices of goods and salary adjustment.
“We are appealing to the government to institute this interim measure to support public workers from the impending economic hardship as we take step to embark on series of actions to press home our demands,” he added.
