Teachers at Assin Tabil D/A Basic School in the Assin South District of the Central Region have boycotted classes today following what they describe as continuous acts of open defecation in school classrooms.

According to the teachers, unknown persons defecated on the floors of several Junior High School (JHS) classrooms, leaving human waste behind and rendering the learning environment unsafe and unhygienic.

The incident severely disrupted academic activities, compelling teachers to suspend teaching until the perpetrators are identified and brought to book.

Teachers say this is not the first time such an incident has occurred.

They revealed that similar acts were recorded last week in JHS 2 and JHS 3 classrooms, and today the situation has spread to the primary section of the school.

“Last week it was JHS 2 and 3, and today it is the primary block. We cannot continue to sit in such conditions and teach,” the teachers lamented.

The recurring sanitation crisis has forced school authorities to close the school for the day as efforts are being made to address the situation.
