The 14th edition of the Tech in Ghana conference has officially been launched in Accra.
The two-day event which is set to take place on November 26-27, 2024, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel will bring together key stakeholders from Ghana’s tech ecosystem to discuss innovation, collaboration, and the future of technology in the country.
Themed “Security, Synergy, and Storytelling,” the conference will focus on data protection, fostering collaboration between local and international stakeholders, and sharing Ghana’s tech success stories with the world.
The momentous event will also feature discussions on innovation in health and education, partnerships in entertainment and technology, and strategies for addressing challenges like regulation and funding.
This year’s edition also marks the introduction of the Tech in Ghana mobile app, designed to enhance networking and engagement for attendees. The app will allow participants to access personalized agendas, connect with other attendees, and learn more about exhibitors and speakers.
The conference, which began in 2017, has become a flagship event for Ghana’s tech industry, attracting over 4,000 participants and 700 speakers across its 13 previous editions in London and Accra. This year, it promises to continue its tradition of fostering collaboration and innovation among startups, investors, government agencies, and multinational companies.
The Founder of Tech in Ghana, Akosua Annobil speaking with journalists after the press launch said over the past seven years, the tech ecosystem in Ghana had grown immensely, and the upcoming event would reflect both the growth of the ecosystem and the platform itself.
She explained that the purpose of Tech in Ghana was to strengthen, connect, and build the ecosystem by fostering collaboration, building relationships, and providing access.
According to her, the platform had expanded beyond being just a conference and was now focused on elevating the voice of technology in Ghana.
She highlighted their partnerships with companies such as Spurt for content production, Socialite AF for pop culture integration, and DYMAX for online storytelling and marketing adding that the collaborations helped the platform evolve and engage more diverse stakeholders.
Akosua Annobil explained that the event would also include discussions about digitization, with contributions from stakeholders like the NCA.
She urged attendees to download the new Tech in Ghana app. She explained that the app provides a networking platform, an agenda tailored to individual needs, and details about exhibitors. She noted that this addition would help attendees maximize their experience at the event.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson commended the rapid growth and development of the tech industry in Ghana, describing it as a driving force for economic growth and innovation.
Her Excellency expressed optimism about the upcoming edition of the Tech in Ghana event, that it is expected to be “bigger and better than ever.”
The High Commissioner also emphasized the international significance of the platform, which she said highlights Ghana as a hub for technology partnerships. She noted that the UK Government values Tech in Ghana for fostering a two-way exchange of information and ideas, enabling mutual learning between stakeholders.
Addressing concerns about barriers to technology access, such as cost, she affirmed that these challenges are central to discussions at the event.
“The whole echoes of Tech in Ghana is about overcoming challenges. If cost is excluding people from tech, I am sure this will be a key topic of discussion,” she said
She further lauded the role of digitization in Ghana, citing the impressive achievements of local tech founders, investors, and multinational corporations.
“When we think about the jobs of the future and the young people coming through Ghana’s education system, it is clear that they need to see and create opportunities in tech,” she added.
The Group CEO of Old Mutual Ghana, Mr. Tavona Biza urged the country to address issues such as regulation, support, and funding to harness its tech potential.
He explained that partnering with the tech industry in Ghana is a strategic approach to achieving their goal of providing financial solutions to ordinary Ghanaians in the fastest way possible.
He expressed hope that the event would serve as a stepping stone for many tech companies in the country.
