The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, on Monday, October 6, 2025, disbursed the District Assemblies Common Fund to support about 100 persons with disabilities at the District Assembly premises.

In his address, Hon. Johnson expressed gratitude to President H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the timely release of the funds, saying it demonstrates the President’s commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities in the district. He noted that the fund is intended to support beneficiaries in areas such as medical care, assistive devices, education, economic empowerment, and caregiving support.

“On behalf of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and our Member of Parliament, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, we have released the District Assembly Common Fund for Persons with Disabilities to support 100 individuals living with disabilities in the Techiman North District.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank President H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the timely release of these funds. We are deeply grateful, as this demonstrates the President’s commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities in our communities.

“We were able to identify the beneficiaries through the Social Welfare Sub-Committee responsible for the fund, as well as the leadership of persons living with disabilities in the Techiman North District. The beneficiaries include those requiring support in areas such as medical care, assistive devices, education, economic empowerment, and caregiving for persons living with disabilities.” He stated.

The DCE appealed to the leadership of the Association of Physically Challenged Persons to make efforts through their Assembly Members to identify other members who are yet to benefit, so they can be included in future disbursements.

Hon. Adom Johnson further announced that a special committee has been formed to monitor and ensure that the funds are used appropriately for their intended purposes. He cautioned that any individual who misappropriate the funds would be blacklisted from future support.

“The Assembly has also formed a special committee to monitor and ensure that the funds are used appropriately for their intended purposes. Any individual who misappropriate the fund will be blacklisted from future support.

“When I met with the leadership of persons with physical disabilities, I encouraged them to intensify education on the District Assembly Common Fund for Persons with Disabilities. I also urged them to involve Assembly Members in their communities so that every person living with a disability in Techiman North will have the opportunity to benefit from the fund during my administration.” He said.

The President of the Federation of the Physically Challenged in the district, Mr. Emmanuel Gyan, described this year’s support exercise as “special,” saying the treatment they received from the committee and the DCE was very encouraging.

He seized the occasion to encourage other persons living with disabilities who did not benefit from the disbursement to exercise patience and trust the process, as he pledged to ensure their names would be included in the next disbursement

“This year’s exercise is special, the treatment we received from the committee and the manner in which we were addressed by the DCE are very encouraging. We, the persons living with disabilities in Techiman North, are now convinced that we have a father in Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson.

“My advice to those who could not benefit from this quarter’s fund is to be patient and trust the process. We will ensure that they are included in the next disbursement.”

Some beneficiaries who spoke with our reporter expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the President, the Member of Parliament for Techiman North , and the District Chief Executive.

“We are truly grateful to President Mahama, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson for this timely support. It will go a long way to improve our lives.” A beneficiary told our reporter.

Another said, “We thank the President, the MP, and the DCE for remembering persons with disabilities. This is my first time benefiting from the fund and I am very grateful, we promise to use the funds for the intended purposes”
