Tension is mounting at Twifo Ashyire in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region following allegations of irregularities and a lack of transparency in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch elections.
Some residents and party members have threatened to stage a demonstration against the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the NDC constituency executives, accusing them of interfering in the electoral process.
According to the aggrieved members, Madam Vivian Yeboah, the incumbent NDC branch chairperson for Twifo Ashyire, was expected to face a challenge from Mr. Abraham Gyabaa, who reportedly picked up nomination forms to contest the position.
However, they claim that when the election process began, constituency officials announced that Madam Yeboah was unopposed despite Mr. Gyabaa’s earlier decision to contest the seat.
The members further alleged that while branch elections have been conducted in surrounding communities, the Twifo Ashyire election has been delayed due to attempts by some party officials to influence the outcome in favour of the incumbent chairperson.
The development has heightened tensions within the community, with the aggrieved members demanding transparency and fairness in the electoral process. They have warned that they will embark on a demonstration if their concerns are not addressed by the party leadership.
