Third edition of media capacity enhancement programme begins

The Ministry of Information has commenced the third cohort of its flagship programme, the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) at the University of Media Arts and Communications (UNIMAC) with 100 journalists enrolling.

The four days training scheduled from September 10th to 13th, 2024, seeks to equip journalists with requisite skills and knowledge to play its watchdog role critically.

This year’s cohorts will be taken through 10 specialized modules which will address critical issues including fact-checking, understanding electoral processes, and navigating the digital landscape.

Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar in her opening remarks, underscored the importance of the media in nation-building, stressing that a well-informed and capable media is integral to Ghana’s democratic process.

The MCEP is designed to address media capacity challenges and enhance the role of the media as the fourth estate in Ghana’s governance system.

Present at the programme were the Members of the Working Committee, Vice-Chancellor, UniMAC, Chairperson of National Media Commission, Deputy CEO, VRA, GIBA President, Rep from IPR, Staff of the Ministry of Information, Invited Participants and the media.
