The Minister for Information, Honourable Fatimatu Abubakar together with the working committee of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) have jointly launched the 3rd cohort of the programme in Accra.
The training, scheduled for September 10 to 13, 2024, would be held in a hybrid format, with 40 journalists attending in person at the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UNIMAC) in Accra, and 60 participating online.
The MCEP is designed to address media capacity challenges and enhance the role of the media as the fourth estate in Ghana’s governance system.
At the launch of the edition in Accra on Thursday, August 22, the chairperson of the working committee, Madam Gloria Hiadzi noted that the programme is not a mere training initiative but a vital investment in the country’s future emphasizing that it is aimed at providing a unique opportunity to journalists and media practitioners to build their capacity.
This year’s edition according to the chairperson will see significant expansion in both scope and reach with about 100 journalists across the country.
Madam Gloria Hiadzi further mentioned that this year’s programme will introduce 10 specialized modules which will address critical issues including fact-checking, understanding electoral processes, and navigating the digital landscape.
Media practitioners and media houses are therefore encouraged to apply for the training as applications open from Friday, August 23 to August 29, 2024.
