Member of Parliament elect for the Assin North constituency, James Gyakye Quayson has overwhelmingly thanked the people of Assin North for giving him a resounding victory in the just-ended by-election.

James Gyakye Quayson secured a landslide victory with a total of 17,245 representing 57.56% of total votes.

In a victory statement, Gyakye Quayson said “This victory means the people, the people have told us to stop politics and focus on solving their problems”.

He expressed gratitude to constituents for giving him the mantle as they did in 2020 and promised to continue with the development of Assin North.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence the people have expressed in what I stand for and what I have done. I am also fully aware of the reciprocal responsibilities that this massive show of confidence imposes on me. My solemn pledge is to work as hard as I can for the people who have made tonight possible”.

He added that “I sought this position because of my deep commitment to the Assin North Development agenda. I remain determined to mobilize resources from within and without to prosecute this agenda with all my energy no matter the cost”.

The Assin North seat was declared vacant after the Supreme Court found James Gyakye Quayson who was elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2020 elections guilty of holding dual citizenship prior to filling to contest in the 2020 general elections.

The Supreme Court subsequently ordered parliament to expunge Gyakye Quayson’s name from its records which led to the Electoral Commission to hold a by-election.

Meanwhile, James Gyakye Quayson is still in court facing criminal charges.
