The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the possession and manufacturing of locally made pistols at Shiashi, a suburb of Accra.
The suspects have been identified as Patrick Gyimah, 24, a dispatch rider resident at Bawaleshie; Emmanuel Osei Yeboah, 21, an electrical welder residing at Adenta Commandos; and Charles Sommah, 29, a private security guard from Ogbojo, Accra.
According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the arrests followed a routine patrol on August 7, 2025. Police officers on duty spotted suspect Patrick Gyimah in a secluded area under suspicious circumstances. A search revealed a locally manufactured pistol hidden in his pocket.
Gyimah allegedly told the police he had purchased the pistol from Emmanuel Osei Yeboah and Charles Sommah at Burma Camp Legos for GH¢2,000, having paid GH¢300 upfront.
The agreement, according to him, was that documents for the pistol would be provided after the remaining balance was paid.
On August 8, 2025, Gyimah led police to arrest Yeboah and Sommah at their respective homes. A search of Yeboah’s residence uncovered two additional locally made pistols, one toy pistol, a BB cartridge, and a jackknife. Yeboah admitted to fabricating the three pistols and selling one to Gyimah.
The three have been charged with manufacturing guns without authority, possession of firearms without authority, and abetment to manufacturing guns without authority — offences contrary to the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972 (NRCD 9).
They pleaded not guilty when arraigned before court and were remanded into custody to reappear on August 22, 2025.
The Regional Police Commander cautioned the public against engaging in the manufacture, sale, or possession of illegal firearms, stressing that such acts are punishable under Ghanaian law.
The public is also urged to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station to help maintain peace and security in their communities.
