The Ghana Police Service has restored calm to Ntotros in the Ahafo Region following a deadly confrontation during an attempted security breach at the Newmont Mining site on the night of Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

The suspects reportedly sought to steal gold, leading to a violent clash with security personnel.

During the operation, police efforts to contain the situation resulted in the death of three individuals and injuries to four others.

The deceased are said to be Muslims, and arrangements are underway to release their bodies to their families for burial in accordance with their faith.

Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, engaged community leaders and the youth overnight to stabilize the situation. His intervention helped to prevent any reprisal attacks or escalation of tensions in the community.

A special investigation team from Accra has been deployed to thoroughly examine the incident. A reinforcement team has also been sent to the area to maintain peace and ensure that law and order are upheld.

The police are urging the public to remain calm while investigations continue. Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs, assured the community that the authorities are working diligently to ensure justice and prevent future incidents.

As the investigation unfolds, the police have reiterated their commitment to upholding peace, security, and the rule of law in the region.
