Three people, including a 19-year-old Senior High School graduate, have died in a suspected generator fume incident at Mahean-Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra.

The deceased include Florence Naa Kwarley and two others who were found dead in a room where they had been sleeping.

The third victim, identified as Jonas Ofosu Yeboah, a carpenter, also lost his life in the incident. He reportedly placed a generator in a locked corridor during a power outage on the night of the tragedy while the three individuals were asleep.

According to reports, the bodies were discovered on Wednesday, May 6, in a hardened state, suggesting they had been dead for several hours before being found.

A family member of the late carpenter, Bernice Ofosu, described the incident as heartbreaking, saying the family never anticipated such a tragic outcome.

She explained that although her brother was usually careful, the decision to place the generator in the corridor during the outage may have led to the fatal incident.

The Ghana Police Service through the Amasaman Divisional Command has confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities are expected to examine whether fumes from the generator contributed to the tragedy and to assess safety practices surrounding its use in residential settings.
