The Ashanti North Police Command has announced that three young men have been convicted and sentenced to a combined total of 75 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The Offinso Circuit Court, presided over by Paul Oduro Esq., delivered the ruling on Thursday, 26th September 2025.

The convicts Nasiru Abdul-Malik (22), Solomon Kwaku Annor Clinton (23), and Hakeem Ibrahim (20) all residents of Asempaneye, pleaded guilty to the charges.

Each was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for conspiracy to commit robbery and 15 years’ IHL for robbery, with all sentences to run concurrently.

This means each individual will serve a total of 15 years behind bars.

According to a press release issued on September 29, the robbery took place in the early hours of 23rd September 2025 at approximately 1:30 AM, after a DAF trailer truck (registration number ER 1703 X) transporting bags of fertiliser from Tema to Wa broke down near Asempaneye, a community along the Kumasi-Techiman Highway.

While the truck was parked at a roadside vulcanising shop for repairs, the three assailants armed with an axe, machete, and pair of scissors launched a violent attack on the truck’s driver and his mate

The attackers made away with the following items:

A Samsung A24 Ultra smartphone valued at GH¢1,400.00

An Itel smartphone worth GH¢400.00

An Itel keypad phone valued at GH¢100.00

A black backpack and a red and blue bag containing personal items

A cash amount of GH¢140.00

In a commendable display of community action, the youth of Asempaneye swiftly apprehended all three suspects the same day. The stolen items were retrieved from them. During police investigations, the suspects admitted to committing the crime.

The convicts have since been transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their custodial sentences.

The Ashanti North Police Command extended its gratitude to the residents and youth of Asempaneye for their cooperation and vigilance, which were instrumental in ensuring the prompt arrest and prosecution of the culprits.

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime in the region and assured the public of its ongoing efforts to maintain safety and uphold justice.

“We commend the people of Asempaneye for their swift response and cooperation. The Police remain resolute in our duty to protect lives and property and ensure that those who break the law are held accountable,” the statement read.
