Two men, Samuel Ademade, a 35-year-old trader, and King Sewornu, 32, a native doctor, have been granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 each with sureties by the Dansoman Circuit Court.
The duo is facing charges of conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful possession of a firearm.
They are expected to reappear in court on July 27, 2025.
The case, which is being prosecuted by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, was heard before Her Honour Mrs. Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit.
According to the prosecution, on June 23, 2025, the Special Support Unit at the Police Headquarters in Accra received intelligence indicating that two individuals were attempting to sell a locally manufactured pistol around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Railways area near the Cumberland Hotel.
Following the tip-off, a surveillance operation was launched. On June 25, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m., a team from the Special Support Unit arrested Ademade at Adabraka. A search on him revealed a locally manufactured pistol and two BB live cartridges.
During initial questioning, Ademade allegedly told police that the firearm and ammunition belonged to King Sewornu, and that he had been asked to find a buyer.
Ademade then led the police to the Cumberland Hotel near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where Sewornu was picked up.
Although Sewornu denied ownership of the weapon and ammunition, subsequent investigations indicated that he had indeed handed the items over to Ademade for sale.
While Ademade reportedly admitted to the offence, Sewornu maintained his innocence throughout the interrogation.
The case is still under investigation.
