The Accra Circuit Court has denied bail to a 20-year-old trader from Osu, Jeffery Gennel, who is facing charges connected to a suspected robbery syndicate operating in the Greater Accra Region.
Gennel, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and two counts of robbery under the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), pleaded not guilty.
However, the court, relying on Section 96(5)(d) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 30), refused his bail application and ordered his remand into police custody.
The judge directed that investigations be concluded swiftly before the next court sitting on July 28, 2025.
According to the prosecution, Gennel is alleged to have collaborated in 2020 with another individual, known only as Hamza, alias “Dem Dead,” who is currently on the run. Together, they are suspected to have carried out a series of robbery attacks in the Teshie-Nungua enclave.
Court filings indicate that the two operated with a shared criminal objective, targeting victims and forcibly taking their possessions. Among the items allegedly stolen were an iPhone XR valued at GH¢2,500 and a Tecno smartphone estimated at GH¢1,500.
Further details presented in court revealed that Gennel was arrested at his residence in Osu on July 5, 2025, during a police intelligence operation. Investigators believe he is part of a larger robbery network active within Teshie and its environs.
During initial interrogation, Gennel is said to have admitted to taking part in three robbery incidents between 2019 and 2020, allegedly using a G5 Power motorbike alongside his fugitive accomplice.
Investigator are continuing efforts to track down Hamza, whom they consider instrumental to the alleged syndicate’s operations.
