A young livestock trader has been killed following a violent highway robbery attack along the Yeji-Kumasi stretch in the Bono East Region, throwing residents into a state of fear and outrage.

The deadly incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Domeabra, a community within the Pru East District.

According to accounts from eyewitnesses, the armed robbers emerged from the roadside and signaled an oncoming commercial vehicle to stop.

The driver, suspecting danger, reportedly slowed down cautiously. However, before the vehicle could come to a complete stop, one of the assailants discharged a firearm into the vehicle, striking the young trader in the jaw.

The victim succumbed to the gunshot wound almost instantly, dying before the driver could bring the vehicle to a complete halt. Passengers on board were then forcibly removed from the vehicle and ordered to lie face-down on the road as the robbers proceeded to seize their money, mobile phones, and other valuables.

After carrying out the attack, the robbers fled into the surrounding bushland, disappearing before police patrol teams arrived at the scene. By the time officers got to the location, the attackers were long gone, and the body of the deceased was lying in the vehicle.

The incident has reignited public concern over the increasing spate of armed robberies on highways in the region.

Communities along the Yeji-Kumasi route, particularly in the Pru East District, have in recent months been plagued by a series of similar attacks, with residents constantly living in fear of ambushes during inter-town travel.

Local residents and transport operators are now intensifying their call on the Ghana Police Service and relevant state agencies to prioritize security reinforcement along the route.

They have also cited logistical constraints faced by the local police—such as insufficient vehicles, personnel, and surveillance equipment—as key challenges that are hampering timely responses to emergency situations.

The latest killing adds to the growing list of violent crimes along the corridor, placing pressure on authorities to respond swiftly before further lives are lost.
