In a significant stride towards empowering young girls and ensuring they do not miss out on their education due to a lack of menstrual supplies, The Girl Pad Project, an initiative by Total Woman Network has made a remarkable impact on May 28, 2024.
By donating sanitary products to girls in rural areas and establishing Pad Banks in schools and communities, we are addressing a critical issue that has long hindered the progress and well-being of young girls.
The lack of access to menstrual supplies has been a silent barrier, preventing countless girls from attending school during their menstrual cycles.
Recognizing this challenge, The Girl Pad Project took decisive action. On May 28, 2024, we distributed sanitary products to girls in various rural areas, ensuring they no longer have to miss school due to inadequate menstrual supplies.
This initiative is a testament to our commitment to fostering an environment where girls can thrive and pursue their education without interruptions.
However, we did not stop at providing immediate relief. Understanding the importance of sustainable solutions, we launched Pad Banks in schools and communities.
These Pad Banks are designed to offer a continuous supply of sanitary products, creating a lasting impact on menstrual health management. By establishing these Pad Banks, we are ensuring that girls have reliable access to the supplies they need, fostering a sense of security and dignity.
The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and volunteers. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ofori Sarpong (Director, Special Ice), Mr. Bismarck Doodo (Director, Regal Roofing GH), Mr. Stanley Tamakloe (Director, TMK Metals), Dee-Kay Car Rentals, Lexta Ghana (Yazz Sanitary Wears), SJ Creativity, MOGA 86 Year Group, and Lol-Ice Pastries. Their dedication and contributions have played a pivotal role in turning our vision into reality.
In addition to providing sanitary products, we are committed to empowering girls with knowledge. Our educational workshops have introduced the Menstrual Card, a tool designed to help girls understand their menstrual cycles, including safe and non-safe periods, ovulation, and overall menstrual health. By equipping girls with this knowledge, we are enabling them to take control of their health and well-being. Knowledge is power, and through these workshops, we are ensuring that girls are informed and confident in managing their menstrual health.
During this initiative, we visited numerous schools, impacting the lives of many young girls. The schools visited include NDODA D/A Primary School, Nsawam; Danso D/A Anglican Primary School, Nsawam; Danso D/A Anglican JHS, Nsawam; Teshie Camp 2 Kindergarten & Primary B School; Teshie Camp 2 JHS; Teshie LEKMA ‘1&11’ Basic School; Teshie LEKMA ‘5&9’ Primary; Teshie Camp 1; Teshie LEKMA 7 Primary; Salem Presby ‘A’ Primary; Salem Presby ‘B’ Primary; Teshie LEKMA ‘1’ JHS; Teshie LEKMA ‘3’ JHS; Teshie LEKMA ‘4’ JHS; Teshie LEKMA ‘7’ JHS; and Teshie LEKMA ‘8’ JHS.
Together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of young girls, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to navigate their menstrual cycles with confidence and dignity. The Girl Pad Project is more than just an initiative; it is a transformative journey towards health, dignity, and empowerment for every girl child. We invite everyone to join us in this mission to break barriers and build a future where every girl can pursue her dreams without hindrance.
