The Member of Parliament for Bongo, Hon. Edward Bawa has said the high cost of fuel in Ghana is crippling transport business.

He stated that drivers are wailing due to the impact of high fuel prices on their business.

“Talk to any taxi driver, they will tell you their business is collapsing.

A reduction in fuel prices has a direct impact on inflation,” the member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has said they are looking at increasing transport fares by 15 per cent.

The Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Alhaji Abass Imoro also said on the Key Points that they are waiting to reach an agreement with the Ministry of Transport before announcing the increment.

“We are looking at increasing the transport fares by 15 percent,” he said.

He added ” We are waiting on the transport ministry so that we reach a consensus.”

Transport operators have been complaining about the rising cost of fuel in the country.

The GPRTU said the high fuel prices are affecting their businesses hence the decision to review transport fares upward.
