Dr. Patrick Essien, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) expert, has urged the Ministry of Education to introduce scholarships for female students in technical universities.
According to Dr. Essien, implementing such a policy would encourage more women to pursue vocational courses, ultimately helping to reduce Ghana’s unemployment rate. He emphasized that the lack of financial support often discourages young women from enrolling in TVET programs, despite the growing demand for technical skills in the job market.
He called on the Education Minister and the government to create a scholarship scheme specifically for female students in technical universities. He believes this initiative would not only bridge the gender gap in vocational education but also equip young women with the necessary skills to secure employment and contribute to national development.
Dr. Essien stressed that investing in women’s technical education is crucial for building a more inclusive workforce and enhancing economic growth.
