The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured parliament that the government will complete the abandoned Agenda 111 Hospital in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency.

His assurance followed a question by the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam, regarding the Ministry’s measures to finish the facility.

Hon. Akandoh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing all outstanding Agenda 111 projects in phases, determined by their current progress, available funding, and local healthcare needs.

“>

“The consensus from stakeholder consultations is that we should roll out the completion of the projects in phases. This will help us prioritize facilities that are near completion and those in areas with the greatest need,” he stated.

The Agenda 111 initiative was launched in August 2020 to strengthen healthcare infrastructure following the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the largest hospital construction programme in Ghana’s history, the project aims to deliver 111 district hospitals, six regional hospitals for the newly created regions, two psychiatric hospitals, an infectious disease centre, and three medical training facilities.

Each 100-bed district hospital is designed to include staff housing and key departments, including Accident & Emergency, Outpatient, Inpatient, Maternity, Surgical, Paediatric, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, and Public Health units.

The overarching goal is to ensure every district has a hospital to improve access to quality healthcare, reduce regional referrals, and create jobs.

The entire project is estimated to cost approximately $1.765 billion, funded by the government and external partners.

While several sites across the country have progressed, others—including the facility in Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira—remain incomplete.

Hon. Akandoh noted that the Ministry is conducting technical assessments across all Agenda 111 sites to determine their exact status and final costs.

He added that the Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance, development partners, and contractors to secure the resources required for their phased completion and operationalisation.

“The health needs of our people cannot wait. We will ensure that the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Hospital and other outstanding projects are completed and put to use for the benefit of the people,” the Minister assured.
