The Tema Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the gruesome killing of a man whose body was found within the Tema Harbour enclave in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, the Public Affairs Officer for the Command, the police received a distress call on Thursday, May 30, 2025, reporting the discovery of a lifeless male body in the harbour area.

“While our team was processing the scene, additional information came in that a man had been apprehended by members of the public for allegedly carrying a human head,” ASP Dzakpasu disclosed in the statement.

Police personnel swiftly moved to the second location and intervened to prevent a possible lynching. The suspect, identified as Ali Mustapha, was rescued and taken into custody. Investigations conducted thereafter led to the arrest of a second suspect, Zakaria Mohammed.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation and autopsy. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending further investigations and efforts to notify the family.

“Both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations,” ASP Dzakpasu stated, adding that the Command is committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice.

The police are urging members of the public who may have any information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the investigations.

The case has sent shockwaves across the Tema community, with residents calling for enhanced security within the harbour area and surrounding neighborhoods.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
