Two people have tragically lost their lives after lodging in a hotel at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipal.

A Police source at the Nkawkaw District told https://myrepubliconline.com/ that, the deceased persons, identified as Emmanuel Ayisi Justice 37, a driver and his mate Emmanuel Denkyi were reported dead after lodging in the hotel.

Police preliminary investigations as obtained by Republic Online indicates that, the deceased driver and his mate were natives of Tease in the Kwahu Afram Plains South, who were transporting charcoal from Dorkokrom in the Kwahu Afram Plains North through to Nkawkaw.

The report added that on Wednesday, July 15, Ayisi and his mate, Denkyi, lodged in at Elsie Hotel, a local lodge near the Nkawkaw new station, adjacent the Melcom. Police source said upon arrival, the driver and his mate were given a room set aside for fumigation because it had contained bedbugs.

However, the security guard on duty that night, without the approval from his manageress gave the set aside room to Ayisi and his mate, who intended to partially use the room to pass the night and leave.

Source further indicated the security guard decided to use insecticide spray to quell the bedbugs and mosquitoes for the two to occupy the room.

Accordingly, the source said, to the dismay of the hotel manageress, she had reported to work Thursday morning, July 16, only to later discover a beeping noise from the set aside room that was earmarked for fumigation.

Police said Ayisi and his mate were discovered unconscious and upon transmission to Kenop Care hospital,  Denkyi who was the driver’s mate was pronounced dead while Ayisi died later the same day. Police believe the death may have resulted from the suffocation of the insecticide spray due to its toxicity.

The security guard and the hotel manageress are currently in police custody at the Nkawkaw District Police station, while police continue its investigation thoroughly.

It’s not the first time the Hotel has recorded crime-related incidents. In 2022, the Ghana Tourism Authority shuts down the facility for not meeting the requirements of a hotel. It has been repeatedly operated as a brothel for sex workers and recorded other criminal activities.
