The Jasikan Municipal Police Command has arrested two Togolese nationals for attempting to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
According to reports, the two were arrested by National Security officers on Sunday, May 19, and handed over to the police for further processing in court.
The National Security officers revealed that leaders of a political party in the area allegedly brought the suspects to the Jasikan Municipal Registration Centre adding that, after their arrest, the political leaders in the Buem Constituency were at the police station, attempting to secure bail for the two suspects but were unsuccessful.
The limited voter registration commenced on May 7, 2024, and is expected to end on Monday, May 27, 2024.
Within the 21-day period, the Electoral Commission plans to register some 622,000 new voters.
As at Monday, May 20, 2024, the EC has registered 459,291 new voters made up of 53.5% females and 46.95 males.
The EC further revealed that the Ashanti region has the highest number of individuals registered while the Ahafo region has the lowest number of individuals registered so far.
