Two men, Bashiru Mohammed, 35, and Ibrahim Rauf, 24, have been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 each with two sureties by the Circuit Court in Dansoman, after being charged with a series of theft-related offences.

Presiding over the case, Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit directed that the accused deposit their Ghana Cards with the court registry and report to the police fortnightly.

The suspects, both residents of Timber Market in Accra, are facing seven charges including conspiracy to steal, unlawful entry, and multiple counts of stealing, in violation of provisions under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

They pleaded not guilty when they were first arraigned on June 19, 2025.

Chief Inspector Emeila Mensah, who presented the facts of the case, stated that the incidents occurred in the early hours of June 13, 2025, in the Abease area of Ablekuma. Around 2:00 am, the wife of Albert Nii Amartey, a professional footballer, reportedly saw Rauf (the second accused) reaching through a window to steal her husband’s iPhone XR. After grabbing the device, he scaled a wall and fled the scene despite an attempt to apprehend him.

In a separate but related incident, Sulley Mohammed, another resident in the area, discovered that his unregistered Royal motorbike, two laptops (HP and Toshiba), and an iPhone XR had been taken from his room while he was asleep. Both men are believed to be victims of a coordinated stealing operation allegedly carried out by the accused.

Police investigations, aided by mobile phone tracking and a witness account, led authorities to Bashiru Mohammed at the Agbogbloshie Yam Market, where one of the stolen iPhones and a motorbike were recovered. Bashiru later assisted police in locating Ibrahim Rauf, who was found in possession of the second stolen motorbike.

During interrogation, both men reportedly confessed to targeting several homes in the Abease community. They subsequently took investigators to Odorgono in an attempt to locate the stolen laptops, but the devices could not be retrieved.

The stolen items involved in the case include two iPhone XR handsets, an unregistered Royal motorbike, and two laptops. While some items have been recovered, the total value of the stolen property remains undetermined due to the outstanding items.

The case has been adjourned to August 25, 2025, as investigations continue.
