The court ordered that they remain in police custody and reappear before Circuit Court One on May 28, 2026.

Presenting the facts before the court, Detective Chief Inspector Frederick Asare said the arrests formed part of an ongoing police operation aimed at combating the growing cases of highway robberies along the Bolgatanga–Walewale–Tamale highway.

According to the prosecution, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) deployed a special team from the CID Headquarters Operations Unit to undertake surveillance and intelligence gathering on a criminal network believed to be terrorizing travellers along the highway corridor.

Detective Chief Inspector Asare stated that after nearly a month of surveillance, investigators obtained credible intelligence linking the two accused persons to the robbery syndicate.

The prosecution said the accused, both residents of Walewale in the North East Region, were identified as members of a gang allegedly responsible for multiple armed robbery attacks across the North East and Upper East Regions.

The court heard that on May 9, 2026, the police tracked the suspects from Walewale to Kumasi, where they were arrested in separate hideouts.

Police further told the court that during interrogation, the accused admitted involvement in several highway robbery attacks in the northern part of the country.

Investigators also uncovered information leading to the identification of other suspected accomplices believed to be leaders of the gang and currently hiding in Walewale.

Preliminary investigations, according to the prosecution, linked the accused and their accomplices to a robbery attack on a mobile phone shop located on Dakio Road in Bolgatanga.

During the incident, the gang allegedly attacked attendants of the shop at gunpoint and fled with an unspecified quantity of assorted mobile phones and cash.

The prosecution said efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, retrieve the weapons allegedly used in the robberies, and trace both the suppliers of the weapons and buyers of stolen items connected to the gang’s activities.
