The High Court in Accra has granted an interlocutory injunction preventing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from proceeding with its Extraordinary National Delegates Conference, set for July 18-20, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon.

The court’s decision followed a motion filed by two registered party members, Shamsudeen Iddrisu from Walewale and Boateng Kwadwo of Bantama, who contended that the conference breaches multiple provisions of the NPP Constitution.

In their affidavit presented by Counsel Agyemang Duah of Charisbrit Legal Consult, the plaintiffs contended that the party failed to follow due constitutional process in organizing the conference.

Among the key allegations are the absence of required constituency and regional delegates conferences prior to the national meeting, and failure by the NPP General Secretary to circulate proposed constitutional amendments to all relevant party offices at least one month in advance.

The plaintiffs further argued that the NPP Constitution mandates that amendments to the party’s constitution be conducted only at the National Annual Delegates Conference not at an extraordinary conference as proposed by the party.

They also raised concerns over the method and timing of notices and circulated materials, stating the general secretary bypassed established protocols, thereby undermining democratic processes within the party.

The court has now temporarily halted the planned conference pending the final determination of the case.

The plaintiffs have additionally indicated that despite petitioning the NPP National Executive Council over these procedural concerns, their grievances remain unaddressed.
