The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has honoured two police officers for their vigilance, swift action, and dedication to duty during a snap check operation at Ablekuma Borkorborkor in the Greater Accra Region, which led to the rescue of two robbery victims and the arrest of seven suspects.

Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and Lance Corporal Joseph Akondoh, both of the Anyah District Police Command, received the commendation at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters on August 8, 2025. They were joined by five Community Police Assistants (CPAs) who also played a role in the successful operation.

Lance Corporal Akondoh earned his promotion from Constable to Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Kotoka was recommended for admission into the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy — a step that will see her commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps upon successful completion.

The incident occurred on August 7, 2025, around 12:30 a.m., when the officers stopped a green pickup truck during routine vehicle checks. In the vehicle’s open bucket were three passengers; two suddenly jumped down, shouting for help, and reported that they had been attacked the night before near Nsawam.

The victims said armed men had hijacked their 5,400-litre fuel tanker and handcuffed them before transporting them in the pickup.

The officers quickly intervened, arresting one suspect on the spot, while others fled. Follow-up operations in the Eastern Region led to the arrest of six more suspects and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker, another tanker, a pumping machine, and other items linked to the crime.

Commending the officers and CPAs, the IGP urged all police personnel to demonstrate the same vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to duty.

He assured that the Police Administration remains committed to recognising and rewarding outstanding performance in the line of duty.
