The Ghana Police Service has interdicted two police officers, Lance Corporal Philimon Agbevem and Lance Corporal Peter Gbadagbo, following allegations of extortion from a motor pillion rider in Accra.
The incident, which reportedly took place on July 22, 2024, came to light after a video detailing the alleged misconduct circulated widely on social media.
In the video, the pillion rider accused the two officers, who were on visibility duty, of torturing him and extorting a total of GH¢3,820.
The rider claimed that despite reporting the incident to the Cantonments Police Station, no action was taken.
However, in a brief statement from the Ghana Police, the two officers have been interdicted and currently assisting with the investigation and will undergo the due process of the law.
“The Ghana Police Service on 9th August 2024, interdicted two policemen for allegedly extorting money from a motor pillion rider in Accra on 22nd July 2024.
The two, Lance Corporal Philimon Agbevem and Lance Corporal Peter Gbadagbo are assisting in investigations.
We would like to assure the public that they will be put through the due process of the law”.
