The Weija Circuit Court has remanded two suspected robbers into police custody in connection with a violent attack on passengers at Mallam Junction in Accra.

The suspects, Stephen Amoani, aged 42, and Osei Antwi, aged 30, were part of a gang of four who allegedly robbed passengers in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025.

According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, the suspects were arrested by officers from the Amanfro District Police Command under the Weija Division following swift intelligence-led action.

Items retrieved from the suspects included a cutlass concealed on Osei Antwi, a black Honda CR-V with trade plate number DV 3145–2025, three gallons of akpeteshie, a bag containing GH₵12,055, and three mobile phones believed to be stolen.

During detention, however, suspect Kwame Mike escaped custody after requesting to use the washroom, while another gang member, Kofi Sammy, managed to flee the scene during the initial police operation.

The two remanded suspects were arraigned before the Weija Circuit Court on October 20, 2025, where the facts and charges were read and explained to them in Twi. They both pleaded not guilty and were ordered to reappear on November 10, 2025.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng said efforts are underway to track down the two fugitives — Kwame Mike and Kofi Sammy — to assist with ongoing investigations.

She reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and urged residents to share credible information to help in the arrest of the escapees.
