Four firefighters stationed at the Legon fire station in Accra have escaped death after a two storey building collapsed on them during a fire incident on Wednesday January, 24, 2024.

The Ghana National Fire Service indicated that it received a distress call on Wednesday afternoon that a building at Westlands, in West Legon was on fire. The Legon Fire Station was the First Responders in the process of dousing the fire.

In the process of putting off the fire, the building collapse on four of the fire officers who sustained various degrees of injuries.

In a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service released on Thursday January 25, the fire officers were quickly rushed to a health facility for treatment.

“Two (2) of the officers who are in critical condition are on admission at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) at Legon, and are responding to treatment after being referred from Medifem Hospital. The other two (2) Officers who suffered minor injuries have been treated and discharged”, the statement revealed.

The statement further noted that, the Chief Fire Officer earlier this morning paid a visit to the injured officers at the UGMC, Legon and assured them of Management’s full support towards their swift and complete recovery adding that investigations have began into the collapse of the building and the cause of the fire.
