The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly extorting money from gold dealers while impersonating officials of the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce.
The suspects, Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38—both of whom claim to be ex-military officers—were picked up after the Police received a complaint that the duo had been visiting gold buying shops in the area under false pretences.
According to the police, the two men presented themselves as taskforce members from the Ghana Gold Board and used that guise to harass and extort money from unsuspecting gold traders.
A search conducted during their arrest led to the retrieval of one handcuff, one can of pepper spray, an electric shocker, a set of uniform, and GH¢500 in cash—believed to be proceeds from their illegal operations.
The suspects have since been arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court, where they were remanded into police custody pending further investigations.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has urged the public, especially those in the gold trade, to remain vigilant and to demand proper identification from individuals claiming to be affiliated with government agencies.
The Command further assured the public of its commitment to protecting businesses from such fraudulent activities and bringing imposters to justice.
