The Minister of Interior Hon. Ambrose Dery has by Executive Instrument renewed the curfew hours imposed on Kandiga and Doba Townships and their environs in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality and Kasena Nankana West District respectively of the Upper East Region from 6:00pm to 6:00am effective, Monday May 24, 2021.
The Government expressed its appreciation to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area for their effort in ensuring peace in the area and urge them to use the established mechanism for the resolutions of all their conflicts and disputes.
In a press statement sighted by myrepubliconline.com, the Ministry of Interior has placed ban on all persons in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
The dispute between the Doba and Kandiga over a piece of land in the Kassena-Nankana municipality and Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region resulted in the death of six people β including an old man who was over 100 years old β with two others sustaining gunshot wounds.
Twelve houses were torched in the conflict.
Some locals have since fled the area to seek refuge in neighbouring villages.
The conflict was sparked by the heroic welcome given to some Kandiga suspects by their kith after the Bolga High Court, before which they had been standing trial in connection with an earlier conflict, granted them bail to the chagrin of the Doba.
