The United States government has handed over 14 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of efforts to enhance Ghana’s military readiness and regional security.
The official presentation took place at the 153 Armoured Regiment at Abuga Square within Burma Camp, with U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, leading the delegation.
Ambassador Palmer highlighted the growing security threats facing West Africa and underscored the need to strengthen Ghana’s northern border.
She reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation with Accra through the supply of vital equipment, training, and joint initiatives.
“These APCs are part of a broader partnership aimed at improving Ghana’s capacity to protect its people and contribute to regional peacekeeping operations,” she said during the ceremony.
Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, received the vehicles on behalf of the government. He praised the U.S. for its continued support and described the donation as a significant boost to the nation’s defence infrastructure.
Dr Boamah assured that the military would uphold high maintenance standards to preserve the vehicles for long-term use.
