U/W NDC describes Akufo-Addo’s visit as ‘idle’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region has described the visit by Nana Akufo- Addo as idle and one that will not make any difference from the previous visit in July 2021.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region has described the visit by Nana Akufo- Addo as idle and one that will not make any difference from the previous visit in July 2021.

“We remain convinced that, this visit is as idle as the previous one embarked on in July last year and convinced beyond every reasonable doubt that, President Akufo Addo is never amenable to change,” NDC noted

In a statement released on Monday, August 22, 2022, by the Regional Communication team of the party, the party cautioned the people in the region to be less expectant because his visit will not depart from repeating the same failed promise.

“We admonished him to use his live radio interviews to apologize to the good people of the region for his government’s failure to continue the development trajectory that, the region has benefited from previous regimes,” the statement stated.

The party, therefore, wants the President to address the region by providing seed money for the efficient operation of the Upper West Regional Hospital, continue the vigorous infrastructural expansion program that was ongoing at both the SDD-UBIDS Campus and the Dr Hilla Limann Technical University and other institutions and resume the construction of numerous road projected abandoned in the area after his government did value for money audit.

“When are we seeing commitment from his government to return contractors to the roads they abandoned, particularly, the Lawra- Domwine-Hian-Tumu-Navrongo Road, the Hamile-Fielmuo-Gwollu-Tumu Road, Lambussie Town roads, Wa- Dorimon road among others?”

The communication team also wants to call the President’s attention to a sod cutting ceremony in 2020 for the construction of a 275-meter bridge over the Black Volta, at Dikpe in the Lawra municipality which was to come with a 12 km road in the Lawra Township and some auxiliary facilities, the rehabilitation and maintenance of 670 km feeder and farm access roads in the Upper West Region.

“We were told the Thirty-Million Euro project was from the European Union to the government of Ghana. It is instructive to note that, the said project has also become a phantom project, with no show of commitment.”

As part of ensuring the continuous growth of the Free Senior High School policy, Akufo Addo’s government must complete the construction of Community Day Senior High Schools at Zini, Wellembelle, Boo, Konzokala, Naro and Dorimon. This, they say will help ease the pressure on second-cycle education institutions in the region.

“It is, however strange that whilst Akufo-Addo’s government cannot find the needed resources to complete these projects, the New Patriotic Party has gotten resources to start and complete the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School at Akyem- Abomosu in the Eastern Region,” the statement added.
