Three breastfeeding mothers with their babies have reported to the Gowrie Senior High School in the Upper East region for the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.

According to reports, two of the mothers have rented apartments outside the school where they go and take care of their babies when the need arises while the third mother leaves her child at home during school hours.

This was revealed at a meeting of traditional authorities organized by the Water Resources Commission to discuss water resource issues and the Vea Dam blockade due to maintenance works on the canal and laterite as well as finding ways to stop wastewater from flowing into the dam.

The headmistress, Ms Elizabeth Paaga explained that the absence of a fence wall around the school makes it difficult for administrative work to be done.

Ms Elizabeth also expressed worry about the numerous exit points of the school and added that about 21 exit points had been identified which also makes it difficult to control the movement of the students.

The headmistress however appealed to the chiefs to release lands to construct dormitories and also construct a fence wall to regulate the movement of the students.

She also added that the effectiveness of guidance and counselling is well incorporated in the development of the students but more is needed.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency, Ms Elizabeth indicated that, sex education is done twice every week and students get counselling from their teachers individually or in groups.
